The following page clarifies the Covid-19 protocols that have been put in place to suit the Tier 2 rules. These are subject to being updated to suit the latest updates and the future departure from Tier 4 in early 2021.

All accommodation reservations due to arrive during the lockdown period will be held for use at a future date. We will keep bookings open in our system to enable guests to re-book their stay with us. Guests need not call us in the meantime.

The following page clarifies the Covid-19 protocols that have been in place since July as a point of reference. These will be updated as needed to reflect the latest Government guidance at the point of re-opening.

The details below are the most important points to note to give you confidence in booking a stay with us. Please view our guide on the link below for further details on our new measures.

The Hydro has welcomed guests for 125 years and will continue to do so. With large airy lounges and restaurants, the Hydro offers extensive outdoor space for relaxing in the private gardens, dining on the terraces or strolling to the beach. Perfect for a well-deserved break.

On arrival

  • A member of the team will welcome all guests at the side entrance and will take your temperature using an infrared thermometer. Hand sanitiser will be available for use on arrival and throughout the hotel.
  • Check-in and check-out will take place at either side of the main reception counter. Footprint floor markers are in place to aid social distancing.
  • Single households and their support bubble applies to all areas of the hotel

Staying with us

  • The staircases and lifts are available for use as normal, but should only be shared with your household
  • Each bedroom has had some items removed to avoid shared usage between guests
  • Your bedroom will only be accessible by its occupants and housekeeping staff will not enter rooms for stays of less than 4 nights


  • Our restaurants will be open for single household dining, with alcohol being available to those dining only
  • Festive afternoon tea and our snack menu will also be available within our conservatory and lounges alongside non-alcoholic beverages
  • All guests will be offered lounge and restaurant table service where the team will take drink orders and bring your drinks direct to you
  • Breakfast has been upgraded to plated a la carte and will be served from 7.30 to 9.30am
  • We will also take a breakfast and dinner reservation time at check-in
  • Overnight guests dining with us in the evening in the Crystal Restaurant will have the option of two or three course dining with an extensive menu available. Three course dinner with coffee is included for all guests on one of our seasonal breaks
  • Guests may continue to dine in the Conservatory or have a light bite in the Lounge
  • The team will continue to offer friendly and efficient service, but please note service may take slightly longer due to our new procedures
  • Alcoholic beverages are only available when accompanying a substantial meal

Regular cleaning

  • A number of enhanced cleaning measures have been put in place which includes regular cleaning of all touch points
  • Bedrooms will be thoroughly cleaned after checkout and will not be re-entered after cleaning prior to the next guest arrival.
  • Restaurant and Lounge staff will wear disposable gloves in addition to face coverings and have strict guidelines in place in changing these between clearing and serving different tables

Personal wellbeing

Personal wellbeing and health is paramount for all guest and staff members. Our non-contact infrared thermometers will be in use for all guests, staff and suppliers entering the building. Staff are being fully trained on wellbeing, health and the new protocols in place.

The hair salon will be operational from 2nd December, Monday to Saturday with a single stylist and guest at any one time.

Face coverings should be worn in all public areas of the hotel, apart from when being seated to eat or drink. This includes the hotel reception, corridors, Drawing Room, Library, Jigsaw Lounge and the main areas outside the lifts and restaurant.

Flexible reservations

We recognise that during this time things may change. With this in mind we are offering flexibility with reservations. If circumstances change, all bookings may be moved to an alternate date of your choice.

We are very much looking forward to re-opening the Hydro and welcoming regular and new guests alike. Our team will continue to provide warm, friendly and efficient service and will assist where possible to ensure you have an enjoyable and well deserved stay with us.
